| Welcome to Kitsilano Farms in the Heart of Vancouver
We have created an urban farm in the heart of Vancouver by piecing together a collection of backyard gardens around the Kitsilano neighbourhood and other parts of the west side. The people who own these properties have provided us with the space to grow organic produce that we can take to market. We also sell a weekly subscription box, known as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, also called Community Shared Agriculture - take your pick. With our CSA program, we grow for a set number of harvest shareholders who subscribe at the beginning of the year. We then share in the bounty of the harvest throughout the growing season, assuming of course that mother nature is willing. This provides financial support for the farmers early in the spring when it is most needed. In return, we share the fruits of an abundant and diverse harvest. In this way, the farm and CSA members form a network of mutual support. You can find more information about Kitsilano Farms and urban farming throughout our website. And if you are interested in offering gardening space on your property, please contact us. Keep your eyes open for the next urban farm sprouting up in your neighbourhood or start your own. The urban farming trend is growing! Here's a wonderfully written article about Kitsilano Farms, from Edible Vancouver. Farmer Craig talks about urban farming on CBC Vancouver's Early Edition. Listen here. CBC news story about SPIN farming, which is the model followed by Kitsilano Farms. Listen here. |
